وتضيف الصحيفة (والحديث هنا يتعلّق بنشر كتاب مصوّر جديد لمؤلّف دنماركي) أن الرسومات المذكورة تقدم “تشويهاً للرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، فإحداها على سبيل المثال تصوّره وهو يتأمل تعذيب اليهود في المدينة المنورة وهم يتألّمون، وأخرى له مع عائشة رضي الله عنها، وثالثة، تظهره على البراق في الإسراء والمعراج، ولم يكن البراق لدى الرسام والكاتب سوى حصان بجناحين ورأس امرأة، ورابعة، في غار حِراء ويبدو فيها جبريل عليه السلام بجناحين أيضاً… وما إلى ذلك من رسومات هدفها تشويه صورته صلى الله عليه وسلم”. العربية

أسئلة:

هل يحقّ للآخرين أن يبحثوا في تاريخنا المقدّس ويستخلصوا النتائج التي يروها “صحيحة” من وجهة نظرهم، وإن كانت تتعارض جذرياً مع آرائنا ونتائجنا الخاصة المتعلّقة بقدسية هذا التاريخ؟ وهل يحقّ لهم أن يعبّروا عن نتائجهم وآرائهم بالوسائل التي يرونها مناسبة، وإن كنا لا نراها كذلك؟ وهل يحقّ لهم أن يسخروا من معتقداتنا؟ وأن يعبّروا عن سخريتهم هذه وبكل وضوح وصراحة؟

Curious Facts!

Each time a demonstration goes awry in Damascus, the event often takes place on a weekend, involving empty buildings and minimal, if any, civilian casualties. Even last year’s incident in Mazzeh, when an alleged “terrorist” cell attacked a UN headquarters, the building had been empty for years, albeit a woman bystander was killed. This and those Syrians arrested in Beirut for involvement in the riots that took place there, not to mention the burning of the Danish embassy in Beirut, bespeaks volumes. The world cannot afford to ignore these obvious signs anymore, this regime is bent on self-destruction, and an alternative to it should be engineered fast before the entire country breaks under its deadweight. The New Rushdiesque!

First posted on my short-lived blog Tharwalizations.

Indeed, it is happening again: protests and condemnations giving way to riots, arson and pandemonium. Just as Khomeini needed to use the Rushdie Affair to stoke the dying fires of his revolution, so now are the myriad Arab dictatorships, most notably the Syrian one, using an, at worst, unwise decision by a Danish publisher to rally the masses to the cause and divert their people’s attention, no matter how momentarily, from their corrupt authoritarian and inept rule. Indeed, a new Rushdiesque is unfolding, albeit a rather mediocre one. For Arab rulers cannot produce but mediocrity. The scenes in Damascus and Beirut are but a simple testament to this little macabre truth. See in this regard as well the blogposts by Tabsir, Llano Estacado, Mental Mayhem and Religious policeman.

The Unraveling!

Syria’s back in the headlines again, indeed, something is unraveling there. But what is it exactly? Is it the regime? Is it the opposition? Or is the entire country unraveling?
