Welcome to Regional War!
The defiant declarationof the Syrian Foreign Minister, Walid al-Moallem, which he made during his brief visit to Beirut, especially the “welcome with regional war” part should begin to raise certain eyebrows in Tel Aviv, in Washington, in Paris, and all across the world. People really need to ask themselves now whether we are not indeed heading towards such a war. For even if Israel and the US are not exactly interested in having things go that far,the possibility remains that the more trouble Israel has in Lebanon and the US in Iraq, and the more beatable the two powers appear, the more tempting the push for war will be by the other side of the equation, namely the alliance that was formed not too long ago, by Syria, Iran, Hezbollah and the radical wing in Hamas, among other Palestinian groups. ما زالت الصيحات تتعالى كل يوم داعية لفتح جبهة الجولان، وهاهو وزير خارجيتنا المغوار يعلن من بيروت بأنه “أهلاً وسهلاً بالحرب الإقليمية.” ترى، هل تجرّ الصعوبات التي تلقاها إسرائيل في لبنان اليوم قادتنا الأغرار إلى الاعتقاد بأن الحرب ضد إسرائيل هي الخيار الأفضل، بصرف النظر عن الخسائر المادية والإنسانية المحتملة؟ هل بدأ حلم النصر العسكري على إسرائيل يداعب أجفان قادتنا الأشاويس مرة أخرى؟ وهل يعتقد هؤلاء القادة بأن الصعوبات التي تلقاها أمريكا في العراق اليوم ستجعلها عاجزة عن مساعدة إسرائيل؟ هل بدأ فعلاً العد العكسي نحو أرمجدون؟
من يريد دمار الوطن؟
ترى، ماذا سيحدث لسورية لو سمح النظام الأسدي بفتح جبهة الجولان الآن وقد كثر المطالبون بها الأمر؟ هل بوسع جيشها المهترئ التصدّي لعدوان إسرائيلي قد يأتي كردة فعل محتملة على هذا القرار؟ وهل بوسع سورية أن تعيد بناء نفسها بعد أن يقوم الطيران الإسرائيلي المدعوم أمريكياً بتدمير بنيتها التحتية؟ أم، هل تمثل قدرتنا الصاروخية القادرة على بلوغ تل أبيب رادعاً كافياً ضد إسرائيل، بحيث يبقى فتح الجبهة بمثابة حرب استنزاف، ويصبح السؤال هنا متعلّقاً بجاهزية سورية السياسية والبنيوية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية لخوض حرب استنزاف جديدة ضد الكيان الصهيوني؟
