The United States is tired of being the policeman of the world, we are told. But when we wonder about the alternative, we are told it is the UN. But the UN does not move without leadership and its decisions can be blocked by Russia or China who apparently have no problem with genocide. NATO does not move without US approval, when Turkey wanted to call on it to intervene, the Obama Administration made it clear that it would not welcome this development. The Arab League has never proven effective in this regard. Moreover, it, too, requires a tacit American approval before endorsing major action.

Well, this is the documentary evidence that proves my case. My criticism of Obama is not premised on ideology but on facts, including his own statements, promises and back-peddling.

A message to Assad ahead of Geneva 2: prepare to leave office willingly, or you will be prosecuted for war crimes. The problem with this message is that the messenger, be it the UN or the international community at large, has no credibility. Previous behavior patterns indicate a willingness to back down in the face of impunity.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers to CNN: “If you were ever going to get a deal for a peace deal, a cease-fire, that got screwed up.” —- Indeed by considering the conflict in Syria solely from the visor of a deal with Iran and the issue of chemical weapons, the Obama Administration re-legitimized the Assad regime and undermined all serious efforts for peace in the country. The best that Geneva 2 could achieve now is lowering the intensity of the conflict.
