Stop lying my liberal friends!

Syrian activists dedicated the Friday of October 28, 2011 for their demand of a no-fly zone. For all the violence perpetrated by the pro-Assad militias and security forces, the protest movement was still a largely nonviolent phenomenon at the time. These people , speaking in the name of millions of Syrians, were not simply ignored, they were betrayed.

Will the Ends, Will the Means – NYTimes.com.

You know why all these arguments are indeed the very essence of horseshit? Because our original demand was not about arming the rebels, but about the establishment of a no-fly zone and a credible internationally-sponsored political process that can allow all sides to chart a path towards a post-Assad period. No, this would not have been easy, but with a no-fly zone in place and a political process, it would have worked. We would not have seen this mass-slaughter, of that we can all be certain. And the expense of maintaining a no-fly zone would have been far less than the cost of the current strikes in Iraq.

Exclusive: Obama Told Lawmakers Criticism of His Syria Policy is ‘Horsesh*t’ – The Daily Beast.

Obama’s greatest fuckup in regard to Syria is not his failure to help moderate rebels, but his failure to stand by the nonviolent prodemocracy protesters who led the revolution and were mercilessly slaughtered by Assad’s military and security machine. Had he took a stand then, during that 6 months period where almost 99% of all protests were nonviolent, we would not be dealing with all this mayhem in Syria and the region. Obama defended his intervention in Libya where the revolution was armed from the get-go, and said he did it to prevent slaughter. This very argument makes his inaction in Syria even more baffling. The level of moral hypocrisy here is sickening. Talk about horseshit. Former Administration point-man on Syria, Fred Hoff, makes an excellent point about his former boss’s argument here.

The Ummah Illusion

Obama approval high with Muslims – Jonathan Topaz – POLITICO.com.

Neither Arabs nor Muslims have ever constituted an Ummah, nor will they. In itself, that’s not a bad thing. It’s our inability to accept this reality and our insistence on believing in the illusion of Ummah-hood that is the essence of the problem. We desperately need new thinking. Meanwhile, Arab and Muslim majority states and communities will always different priorities that reflect the local socioeconomic realities with which they have to contend, and the political ideologies they espouse. We are not One. We never were. We will never be. Perish the illusion.

Jon Stewart Rips Apart How the Media Covers the Violence in Gaza – Mic.

Jon Stewart was quick to speak on the tragic developments in Gaza and to point out the asymmetric nature of the conflict. But on Syria, he remained silent until such time that Assad’s crackdown finally plunged the country into a civil war allowing for the emergence of Al-Nusra and ISIS. He, then, hosted guests like Fareed Zakaria whose main point was to insist on staying out of the fray, who spoke of all sides as being equally bad, and wondered where the good guys were, all while ignoring the asymmetric nature of the conflict. I long lost my respect for liberals like Jon. He could be brilliant at times, but his politics prevent him from being consistent, and that makes him a hypocrite. So, I don’t give a fuck anymore about how fair he chooses to treat certain issues. He’s just another ideologue.
