Let’s not mince words here, this kind of sadistic behavior comes as another indication that what’s happening in Syria is not a civil war but a genocide, a genocide that has inspired desperate resistance and has been exploited by different regional actors, and Al-Qaeda, to further their particular agendas. But it is GENOCIDE. This is what Obama is ignoring. In the age of “Never Again” and R2P and Genocide Prevention Bureaus, a genocide is unfolding and no one gives a damn. Global Order has lost its relevance, so prepare to live in a jungle.

Was ist das größte Problem der US-Außenpolitik? Das amerikanische Volk interessiert sich nicht dafür, trotz des Einsatzes zahlreicher Experten, Thinktank-Wissenschaftlern und professionellen Exilanten. Die meisten Amerikaner sind einmischungsmüde, und US-Präsident Barack Obama weiß das. Er sagte vergangene Woche eine lang geplante Asienreise ab, weil es ihm wichtiger war, in Washington den Kampf mit den Republikanern um die Krankenversicherung und das Budget zu führen, obwohl er wusste, dass er damit China das Feld überlassen würde. The Russian Proposal: Opportunity or Trap?

This article published yesterday in NOW elaborates on a recent Facebook status, but it is obviously dated now after the Obama’s speech. Things are moving quickly and writing on current affairs is not easy. Still, the argument is the same: if President Obama truly believes in what he is peddling – that Assad needs to be punished, and eventually ousted – then, he needs to find a way to retrieve the initiative and launch his heralded limited strikes which, knowing the fragility of the Assad regime, will have a major impact on the conflict.
